Politician and publisher Dele Momodu has issued a warning to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioning them against allowing what he termed “aggression and rambunctiousness” from groups demanding the partyโs presidential ticket for Peter Obi in 2027.
In a statement titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Another Wike Scenario,” Momodu expressed concern that the fledgling opposition coalitionโadopted last year by various parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)โwas being destabilised by certain factions.
โI was present when some members of Nigeriaโs opposition political parties gathered in Abuja last year to adopt ADC as their new vehicle. No one forced anyone to joinโฆ But in recent times, some groups have introduced aggression and rambunctiousness into a fledgling cooperation”, Momodu wrote on his X account.
His comments come amid growing public pressure from supporters and allies of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate. Notable figures such as Prof. Pat Utomi and activist Aisha Yesufu have insisted that Obi must run for president on the ADC platform and not accept a vice-presidential slot.
Momodu questioned the approach of these groups, asking, โHow can a coalition work if some groups insist they must produce the top ticket by donation and coronation, without election or persuasion?โ
He urged the ADC, under the chairmanship of former Senate President Gen. David Mark, to act decisively to enforce discipline and prevent internal conflict from undermining the party before it gains footing.
โThis was how Nyesom Wike held PDP by the jugular until it was too late,โ Momodu warned, drawing a parallel with the crisis that rocked the Peoples Democratic Party before the 2023 elections. โADC should be a party of love and not a Fuji house of commotion.โ
