The Management of Saโadu Zungur University (SAZU) has reassured students, staff, and the general public of the safety of its campuses following a recent incident involving one of its students, while dismissing reports suggesting the attack happened within the university premises.
In a statement issued by the institutionโs Public Relations Officer, Auwal Hassan, the university clarified that the victim, Maryam Yakeem, a 200-level student of Biology Education, was attacked by suspected phone snatchers outside the campus environment.
According to the statement, claims circulating on some online media platforms that the incident occurred within the university are false and misleading.
The management stressed that no such security breach has been recorded within any of its campuses.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, reiterated the institutionโs commitment to maintaining a secure learning environment, noting that the university has sustained effective collaboration with security agencies. She added that this effort has ensured zero reported cases of insecurity within the campuses.
The statement also recalled the Vice-Chancellorโs earlier engagement with the State Commissioner of Police aimed at strengthening security support for the university community.
While expressing concern over the spread of unverified information by some media outlets, the management described such actions as unprofessional and capable of inciting unnecessary panic among the public.
The university further disclosed that its Chief Security Officer and the Dean of Studentsโ Affairs promptly visited the injured student in the hospital, confirming that she is in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.
SAZU extended its sympathy to the student and her family, assuring that the institution remains committed to protecting the lives and property of all members of its community.
The management called for calm and urged the public to rely on verified information, emphasizing that adequate measures are in place to ensure continued safety both within and around the university.
