Pesident Donald Trump has sent a warning to House Republicans on Tuesday, stating that if the party fails to win the upcoming midterm elections, he will likely face impeachment by Democrats.
Speaking at a Republican retreat in Washington, Trump framed the November contests as crucial to protecting his presidency and advancing his policy agenda. “You gotta win the midterms ‘cause, if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be – I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached”, he said.
With the GOP holding only a narrow majority in the House, Trump urged lawmakers to unify and campaign aggressively on issues such as gender, healthcare, and election integrity.
He pointed to voter frustration over the economy but placed blame for inflation squarely on Democrats, encouraging Republicans to highlight stock market gains instead.
His remarks come amid increasing pressure to refocus on domestic concerns, following a controversial military operation targeting Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
Trump made only brief mention of the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack — a date Democrats marked by accusing Republicans of downplaying the events — and repeated several false claims, including an assertion about Washington, D.C., homicide rates that conflicted with official police data.
The event took place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which was renamed last year to include Trump’s name. During an 84-minute speech, the president also shared personal anecdotes, including advice from his wife to stop dancing in public.
All House seats and a third of the Senate will be contested in November. Historically, sitting presidents tend to lose House seats in midterm elections, but Trump expressed confidence that Republicans could defy that trend and secure what he called an “epic midterm victory.”
