Terrorism kingpin Bello Turji has reportedly been left devastated and is threatening revenge after his top lieutenant, Kallamu Buzu, was killed in an ambush by Nigerian security forces in Sokoto State.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that troops of the 8 Division ambushed and killed 11 bandits during an operation near Kurawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
While the army did not name the dead, security and local sources identified the slain terror leader as Buzu, a key emissary for Turji in the area, who was notorious for terrorising rice farmers and imposing levies.
According to intelligence sources, Turji was deeply affected by the death of his lieutenant, which occurred during a failed mission to target local traders.
Turji has reportedly threatened retaliation and is said to be blaming another of his commanders for the operational lapses that led to the ambush.
The community in Sabon Birni, long terrorised by Buzu’s activities, has welcomed the news, describing the army operation as a significant relief.
Sokoto State Government has commended the military’s swift response, praising the troops for averting a potential tragedy and recovering eight AK-47 rifles, five magazines, and ammunition.
Residents and security personnel, however, are being urged to remain vigilant over fears of reprisal attacks from Turji’s faction.
