The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has not concluded the delineation of wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency, dispelling rumours of a final decision.
The exercise, ordered by the Supreme Court in a 2nd December 2022 judgement, remains under review following extensive consultations and fieldwork.
This was contained in statement issued on Thursday by the Commission, detailing its rigorous engagement process, spanning from February 2023 to July 2024, involving key stakeholders and on-the-ground assessments across all affected communities.
A draft report was subsequently produced and presented to party representatives during a consultative meeting in Warri on 4th April 2025.
“The purpose was to give them the opportunity to raise any concerns they might have,” INEC stated. “The overall objective was to arrive at an amicable agreement endorsed by all the parties involved.”
Emphasising that the process remains open for input, the Commission urged stakeholders to formally submit their observations on the draft report to guide further discussions.
It also cautioned against actions that could disrupt peace in the region, stating, “We appeal to all stakeholders in the constituency to refrain from engaging in any activity that could threaten the peace and security of the area.”
Reiterating its commitment to fairness, INEC affirmed that its decisions would be based on “equity, the rule of law, and in full consultation with all stakeholders.” The statement was signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee.
