The Allied Peoples Movement has officially kicked off its preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State expected to formally unveil the party’s campaign headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf announced this in a statement released on Saturday, explaining that the Abuja office would serve as the main operational base for the Makinde and Daura presidential campaign.
Yusuf stated that the party’s campaign would be driven by meaningful conversations about governance, realistic answers to national challenges, and the true concerns of everyday Nigerians, while also highlighting Makinde’s performance as governor and his proposed plans for the country.
He emphasized that the APM was approaching the 2027 race with “confidence, humility and an unwavering commitment” to offer Nigerians a dependable alternative that could restore hope, ensure safety, create prosperity and bring back national pride.
The statement added that Makinde’s emergence as the party’s standard-bearer, along with his running mate Lawan Daura, had led to a noticeable increase in membership and popular backing for the APM, which the party linked to growing trust in the integrity and track records of both men.
The APM further described the Makinde-Daura ticket as bringing together skill, vigour, administrative know-how and widespread acceptance necessary to build a more secure, prosperous and united country.
Yusuf went on to reveal that Makinde had been holding extensive meetings with political leaders, stakeholders and community members across Nigeria as part of his pre-campaign consultations, aimed at understanding the desires and challenges of citizens and developing a thorough national agenda to tackle the country’s pressing issues.
The party also disclosed that it would soon release a policy document containing workable and quantifiable solutions to Nigeria’s problems, along with Makinde’s full vision for a better-run country.
Taking aim at the All Progressives Congress, the APM argued that the 2027 election would give Nigerians a clear opportunity to choose between what it called “renewed hopelessness” under President Bola Tinubu and a new direction for national renewal under Makinde.
The party further asserted that President Tinubu, who is expected to be the APC’s candidate, had no achievement worth presenting to Nigerians in his quest for another term.
The APM firmly stated that “Nigerians will not reward failure with another mandate” and urged voters to use their democratic rights to elect what it described as “competent, accountable and responsive leadership” under the APM banner.
