Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is hoping to return to action for Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon next week after suffering a groin injury in the club’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir.
The Nigerian forward was forced off in the 33rd minute after picking up the injury, sparking concerns over his availability for the European fixture.
However, Osimhen has played down fears over the setback and revealed that he is eager to feature against Sporting Lisbon if he receives clearance from Galatasaray’s medical team and coaching staff.
“I have nothing, I didn’t want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said.
The striker had earlier opened the scoring for Galatasaray with a brilliant strike into the top corner after being set up by Lucas Torreira before discomfort forced him out of the game.
Barış Alper Yılmaz replaced him as Galatasaray went on to secure a 3-2 victory.
The Turkish champions later confirmed that tests showed strain and pain in Osimhen’s right adductor muscle group, with treatment immediately beginning.
The club also revealed that further examinations, including an MRI scan, were being carried out on Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina, with the results expected on Sunday.
Osimhen’s potential return would come as a major boost for Galatasaray, who are preparing for their Champions League fixture against Sporting Lisbon and will be hoping their leading striker avoids a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
