The Nigerian Army has announced that troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intercepted a suspected gun-runner and recovered 969 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Taraba State.
In a statement issued on 21 February 2026, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, revealed that the operation took place at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area following actionable intelligence.
According to the statement, vigilant troops on stop-and-search duty flagged down an Audi vehicle with registration number RBC 798 DV (Abuja). During a thorough search, the suspect, identified as Mr. Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old resident of Numan Local Government Area in Adamawa State, was apprehended.
Items recovered from the suspect include:
ยท Two (2) AK-47 rifles
ยท One hundred and ninety-seven (197) empty magazines
ยท One box of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition containing 250 rounds
ยท Fourteen packs of 9mm Parabellum ammunition containing 700 rounds
ยท Nineteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
ยท The sum of Two Million, Four Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira (โฆ2,440,000)
ยท One wallet containing four identification cards and four ATM cards
ยท One Android phone and one Itel keypad phone
ยท One power bank
ยท Eight bottles of perfume
ยท One rechargeable touch light
ยท Assorted local charms
Lieutenant Muhammad stated that the suspect and all recovered items are in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action.
Commending the troops for their alertness and professionalism, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, charged them to maintain the tempo in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s mandate to rid Taraba State of all forms of criminality.
The Commander also reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to its reward and sanction policy, noting that the personnel involved in the successful operation would be duly recognised and rewarded for their exemplary conduct.
