…Says ‘Battle is Not Over,’ Accuses Rival Camp of Being ‘Government Agents’
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), loyal to Turaki, has rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser and other national officers.
In a press statement released on Monday, the faction declared that it has instructed its legal team to proceed to the Supreme Court to challenge the appellate court’s decision, insisting that “the battle is not yet over.”
The Court of Appeal, in a judgment delivered by a panel presided over by Hon. Justice Mohammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma, upheld the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, which by extension affects other key officers such as the National Secretary and the National Organising Secretary.
The court also upheld earlier judgments by Justices Omotosho and Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, while dismissing an appeal against interlocutory orders by Justice Abdulmalik.
Reacting to the development, the Turaki faction, through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, expressed concern that the implementation of the judgment would cause “untold hardship” on its members.
To avert this, the faction stated that it is consulting with critical organs of the party while simultaneously preparing to approach the apex court.
“We have instructed our lawyers to immediately take legal steps to appeal same to the Supreme Court—being the apex court in the land—to conclusively adjudicate on this matter,” the statement read. “We are hopeful that the apex court will expeditiously settle this matter in the interest of democracy.”
In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, the faction framed the legal battle as an ideological struggle, accusing the rival camp led by Alhaji Turaki’s opponents of being “government agents masquerading as opposition leaders.”
“The battle to rescue our party from the hands of government agents masquerading as opposition leaders must be fought, and we are determined to do so and win,” Ememobong added.
Urging its members to remain calm and steadfast, the faction quoted scripture, saying, “We shall be more than conquerors.”
