Katsina State Government has revoked the operational licenses of all private and community schools, directing proprietors to undergo a fresh registration process by September 30, 2025.
The move, announced on Saturday by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, is part of a broader reform aimed at improving quality assurance and strengthening regulation within the stateโs education sector.
According to a circular from the ministry, all previously issued licenses were terminated effective August 13, 2025, as approved by the State Executive Council. The new policy requires school owners to submit new applications, pay revised fees, and comply with stricter registration measures.
Commissioner Musa-Musawa warned proprietors against arbitrary increases in tuition fees under the guise of the new charges, emphasizing that any fee adjustments must receive prior approval from the ministry.
She also clarified that schools should continue normal academic activities while the re-registration process is underway. Further details regarding school categorizations and revised fee structures are expected to be communicated to the National Association of Proprietors of Private and Community Schools.
The state government says the reforms are designed to promote standardization, accountability, and effective regulation in line with global best practices in education.
