Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara will boycott this weekend’s Peoples Democratic Party National Convention in Oyo State, according to information gathered by SPEAR NEWS.
The boycott will expand a growing list of prominent party stalwarts protesting the event organised by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, has become a focal point for internal divisions within the opposition party.
SPEAR NEWS can confirm that Fubara will be absent from the gathering, aligning himself with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and other significant PDP members who have described the event as an
early Christmas party rather than a substantive political meeting.
According to information verified by SPEAR NEWS, the boycott coalition now includes former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, creating a formidable bloc of dissent against the party’s current leadership direction.
The convention, organised under the supervision of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, was intended to demonstrate party unity and strategic positioning ahead of future elections. However, SPEAR NEWS investigations indicate that the planning and composition of the event have instead exacerbated existing tensions between competing factions within the party.
Governor Fubara’s decision to join the boycott carries particular significance given his position as a sitting PDP governor. His alignment with Wike, who serves as FCT Minister under the rival All Progressives Congress government, highlights the complex cross-party affiliations that continue to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
