A senior presidential aide has expressed concern over waste management in the Federal Capital Territory, directly appealing to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for intervention.
Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, used his social media platform on Friday to express his “particular concern” about the state of waste disposal in Abuja.
He stated that refuse is now taking over the city and requires “urgent fixing.”
Observations by Spear News teams across the capital substantiate Mr Ajayi’s position. Significant and unsightly heaps of uncollected rubbish are evident in numerous districts, including Karu, Nyanya, Mabushi, and Gwarinpa. The accumulations in public spaces are creating unpleasant odours and fuelling anxieties about potential health risks.
In his remarks, Mr Ajayi balanced his critique with praise, acknowledging the Minister’s “very visible” achievements in expanding road infrastructure and completing previously abandoned projects.
The presidential aide framed the waste situation as the next priority, stating the Minister “must now avert a public health crisis.”
Public health experts had recently warn that prolonged exposure to such waste can lead to an increase in disease vectors and contamination, raising the risk of outbreaks.
