A fresh crack has opened within the coalition backing Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid, with the United Kingdom Coordinator of the OK Movement, Adebayo Brown, accusing leaders of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council and the Obidient Movement of driving a wedge between supporters of the candidate.
The dispute centres on claims that Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had distanced themselves from the OK Movement — an assertion Brown has rejected and challenged the Obidient Movement’s global coordinator, Dr Moses Paul, to substantiate.
In a statement obtained by Spear News Nigeria, Brown warned that with the general elections now 76 days away, the focus of campaign leaders should be on structure-building and voter mobilisation rather than public feuds.
He said two key appointments, the Obidient Movement coordinator and the NDC Campaign Director General, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, had produced officials “more interested in political disputes than in the responsibilities of their offices,” adding that their attention “appears to be directed towards the National Director General of the OK Movement, John Ughulu.”
Brown argued that the Obidient coordinator cannot unilaterally speak for Obi or Kwankwaso, insisting that “such positions should be established through clear and verifiable communication, not personal assertions.”
He maintained that the OK Movement regards neither the Obidient Movement nor the NDC as an enemy, saying: “We have a common democratic challenge ahead, and the priority should be mobilising Nigerians, strengthening political structures, and working towards credible elections in 2027.”
The OK Movement coordinator also defended Ughulu against what he described as attempts to undermine him, stressing that “his commitment should not be misrepresented as a pursuit of personal gain.”
The NDC Presidential Campaign Council, through its spokesperson Dr Constance Ikokwu, brushed aside the statement, telling our correspondent the campaign was preoccupied with more pressing matters: “We’re heavily focused on the campaign right now. We don’t need unnecessary distractions.”
On his part, Dr Paul’s media aide, Chidi Iloamaeke, said the Obidients coordinator was not a member of the OK Movement and was committed to his mandate of mobilising support for Obi. He urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers to vote for the former Anambra governor in 2027.
