The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday invalidated the David Mark-led caretaker committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), nullifying all decisions taken by the committee, including the presidential primary that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 candidate.
Delivering judgment in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, Justice Peter Lifu held that the Mark-led committee was illegal and upheld the claims of Nafiu Bala Gombe, the party’s former Deputy National Chairman (North-East), granting the reliefs sought.
Gombe had approached the court on the grounds that following the resignation of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, he was entitled to assume the party’s leadership. He accordingly sought an order nullifying all actions taken on behalf of the party by the Mark-led leadership, including the primary election that nominated Atiku.
The ADC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and former Chairman Ralph Nwosu were listed as defendants in the suit.
