The Peoples Democratic Party has mocked President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, accusing them of engaging in “endorsement shopping” ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made these comments during a press briefing held in Abuja on Monday.
He stated that the APC’s rush to gather support through various endorsements is a clear sign of a failed government.
His statement was a direct response to recent moves by various APC groups, including the Progressive Governors Forum and the National Working Committee, who have already endorsed President Tinubu for a second term.
Ologunagba said that instead of seeking early endorsements, the APC should let its performance in government speak for itself. “If indeed the President is doing well and the APC is succeeding, you let your work speak for you. You don’t want to say come and endorse me. So it is panic mode,” he told journalists at the briefing.
He added, “The fact is that they’re not doing well, they have failed, and they recognise that Nigeria truly knows that this APC has failed the country.”
In contrast, he said the PDP is focused on delivering a successful National Convention in November as a platform to launch itself back to Nigerians.
Ologunagba also used the occasion to stress the urgent need for electoral reforms, including a law to mandate the real-time transmission of election results. He questioned why technology like BVAS often fails during elections when payment POS machines work reliably everywhere.
“That appears to be deliberate institutional manipulation,” he said, putting the Independent National Electoral Commission on notice that the PDP would “lead the charge” to ensure a seamless and credible process in 2027.
