A faction of the All Progressives Congress based outside Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s top leadership to step in and resolve a growing leadership crisis threatening the APC’s stability in Edo State.
In a letter made public on April 21, 2026, the Edo State chapter of the APC Diaspora Media Group expressed deep worry over the direction of the party in the state.
The group, which claims a membership of more than one thousand eight hundred people spread across several nations, warned that the internal strife could hurt the party’s performance in the 2027 elections unless dealt with quickly.
The conflict centres on the Edo APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe. According to the diaspora group, Tenebe recently made a public statement saying the party would not hand its ticket to people who keep losing elections.
The group believes this remark was directed at Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former governorship candidate and a prominent figure in the state’s APC.
The group labelled the comment as careless and deeply insulting. It argued that Ize-Iyamu has done nothing to deserve such public embarrassment and that the chairman’s words go against the party’s core values of respect and togetherness.
Beyond this incident, the group accused Tenebe of a recurring pattern of disrespectful behaviour. It pointed to previous comments aimed at senior party leaders, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who once served as the party’s National Chairman, and Minister Abubakar Momoh.
The group also alleged that the chairman has made threatening remarks toward certain young members and labelled some individuals as unwelcome, actions that could stir political unrest.
The diaspora group further accused Tenebe of forcing candidates on local government areas across the state, failing to consult with other party stakeholders, and running the chapter with an overly harsh and divisive approach. It said the chairman had turned the Edo APC into a space marked by fear and internal fighting rather than unity.
In light of what it called a dangerous path, the group passed a vote of no confidence in Tenebe and demanded his immediate suspension while an investigation is conducted.
The signatories to the letter included Taju Omoruyi as General Coordinator, Comrade Onaghise as United Kingdom Director of Operations and Public Relations, Rita Egharevba as Director of Administration, Finance and Logistics, Alasa Braimoh as General Secretary, and Eghosa Monday Ohuimumwen as Director of Media and Publicity, among others.
The group urged the national leadership of the APC to restore order and discipline in the Edo chapter without delay.
