President Bola Tinubu is currently behind closed doors with state governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which was originally scheduled to hold at the Council Chamber by 4 p.m., was moved to the Presidentโs Office Conference Room and kicked off about an hour behind schedule.
Among the governors spotted at the venue are Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State. Several other states sent their deputy governors in place of their principals.
As of the time this report was filed, the agenda for the gathering had not been disclosed. However, sources within the Villa suggest the discussion revolves around what presidency officials have termed “matters of urgent national importance.”
The session with APC governors comes less than 24 hours after an emergency closed-door meeting between the President and the extended leadership of the Senate. Speaking after that Wednesday evening session, Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele revealed that “far-reaching decisions” were reached, though he declined to provide specifics.
Bamidele had noted that the Senate’s resolutions were triggered by an earlier closed executive session held by the upper legislative chamber the same day.
Observers note that the back-to-back high-level meetings signal that the President is pressing forward with a coordinated strategy involving both the legislature and state executives.
