The All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Movement in Ondo State has begun a major grassroots campaign to secure 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The group has promised to bring all support groups under one umbrella to achieve this ambitious target.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after a meeting in Akure, the chairman of the movement, Nimbe Farunkanmi, stated that Ondo State, which has nearly two million registered voters, is fully prepared to deliver for President Tinubu. He revealed that the elders have already started the process of mobilising support from the ward, unit, and local government levels across the state.
Farunkanmi explained, “We are determined to deliver 1.5 million votes to Tinubu. It is possible because Ondo currently has 1.9 million registered voters. The problem has always been voter apathy, and that is what we, as elders, want to change. So, this is an elders’ movement for Tinubu’s continuity, and meetings like this would be replicated at local government, ward, and unit levels to ensure total mobilisation for the President.”
A prominent stalwart of the party, Jamiu Ekungba, emphasised that the movement was created to unite APC elders and ensure a massive voter turnout for the 2027 election. He disclosed that plans are being developed to encourage indigenes of the state to return home to vote. The mobilisation effort will also specifically target farmers, traders, and artisans to ensure broad-based support.
Ekungba said the movement recognises the importance of inclusive participation, adding that every segment of society must be involved in the process to achieve the set goal.
In her remarks, Mrs Olukemi Iyantan, a party member and federal commissioner at the National Population Commission (NPC), noted that the elders’ intervention would bring much-needed unity and direction to the party. She stated, “The unity of purpose is key. Before now, the absence of leaders made the party appear disorganised. But with the Elders Forum, we have a strong platform for consultation and wisdom that will help us achieve victory for Tinubu in 2027.”
Mr Olumuyiwa Ogunleye, another prominent elder of the APC, explained that the role of the elders is to bring all factions and support groups under a single umbrella known as “Ondo State for Tinubu 2027.” This structure aligns with the caucus already established by the state governor.
Ogunleye stated, “The elders are intervening to ensure there’s no division in the party’s support for Tinubu. All groups will now operate under one structure with the sole aim of delivering maximum votes for the president in Ondo State.”
The meeting, which brought together key party figures from across the state, marks the beginning of a coordinated effort to consolidate support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. The elders expressed confidence that with proper mobilisation and a united front, the 1.5 million vote target is achievable.
The movement plans to hold regular consultations and strategy sessions at all levels of the party structure. They aim to address issues of voter apathy by engaging directly with communities and highlighting the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
The APC elders believe that a focused and united campaign, starting from the grassroots, will ensure that Ondo State plays a significant role in securing victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
