Women and youth in Bauchi State have been urged to take full advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to secure their participation in the forthcoming elections.
The call was made by a northern politician and women leader, Hajiya Nafisa Omar, during a one-day voter registration mobilisation programme organised by the PDP National Youth Vanguard at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall, Bauchi, over the weekend.
Nafisa, who doubles as the National President of Kaura United Support Group, emphasised that women and youth remain pivotal to electoral outcomes, stressing that their active registration was vital to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s success in the next polls.
“The fate of our party depends largely on women and youth because they constitute the highest percentage of the voting population. Every eligible member must obtain a voter’s card to boost our numerical strength and ensure victory,” she stated.
She described voter registration as a crucial step in strengthening democracy, noting that it enhances inclusivity, civic responsibility, and political participation.
“It is not enough to be a PDP supporter in name. Only with a voter’s card can we make meaningful impact at the polls. The goal of every party is to win elections, and that can only be achieved when our supporters are registered to vote,” she added.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP chairman in Bauchi State, Alhaji Samaila Burga, his deputy, Alhaji Danlami Garba Tashan Durumi, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and strategic for the party’s electoral prospects.
Also, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information, Usman Usman Shehu, represented by Manu Ali Kura, pledged government’s support to expand the campaign across the state.
“You have inspired us to intensify this mobilisation drive so that every unregistered youth and citizen gets their voter’s card—the only legitimate tool for electing leaders and accessing the dividends of democracy,” he said.
