Senator Ishaku Abbo has officially dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and will announce his new political party later this week.
The former Adamawa North senator announced the move on Monday morning, citing the deepening crisis in the ADC’s Adamawa State chapter as the reason for his departure.
His exit came barely 48 hours after the camp of Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, withdrew from the party.
The Binani faction announced its mass resignation on Saturday, April 18, 2026, following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama.
The crisis in the Adamawa ADC has been brewing for months. Party congresses conducted by a committee led by General Ishaya Bauka (retd.) were described by aggrieved stakeholders as “fundamentally flawed, manipulated, and imposed against the will of the majority of party members.”
The Binani faction accused the party leadership at both state and national levels of destroying internal democracy and disregarding court orders.
A Federal High Court sitting in Yola had earlier suspended the party’s state congress pending the determination of a suit filed by the state chairman, Comrade Shehu Yuhanna, over alleged exclusion from the congress planning process.
Senator Abbo, who has been a prominent figure in the ADC since defecting from the APC, joins the growing list of high-profile exits from the party in Adamawa.
In a statement earlier this month, the ADC National Youth Council noted that the crisis in Adamawa had left high-profile supporters, including Senators Binani and Abbo, disgruntled and on the brink of ditching the party.
In his announcement on Monday, Senator Abbo declared: “I will officially announce my party this weekend. My supporters and those who want to run for office and win in 2027 should wait for me. I will lead you to Victory.”
He continued: “Peter Obi moved to Labour Party barely 6 months to elections and won in 12 states same as Tinubu whose party was in power for 8 unbroken years. President Faye of Senegal came out of Prison two weeks to elections and won the presidential election.”
Abbo then challenged his critics directly, asking: “We have over 10 months to elections and you are telling me that it’s too late to move to a new party and win election?”
The former senator also pointed to his groundwork across Adamawa State over several years, stating: “I have moved round Adamawa state, embedded myself with the grassroots and mobilized people for the past 3 years.”
He concluded with a confident message to his supporters: “Wait and see me win. Say Amen to the prayers offered here for me in Shelleng LGA of Adamawa state. I AM SIA. I BELIEVE.”
Senator Abbo is expected to reveal his new political platform before the end of the week.
