The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has firmly denied authoring a document currently in circulation concerning the postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ekiti State congress and governorship primary.
In a press statement signed by Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, the Commission disowned the correspondence, dated November 10, 2025, which purported to be from the office of the Secretary to the Commission, the Commission stated unequivocally that the document, which details resolutions from a PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, “did not emanate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission, nor any official channel of INEC.”
Preliminary investigations by the electoral body have revealed a case of forgery, indicating that “the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by unscrupulous elements.”
Consequently, INEC has strongly advised the general public, political parties, and the media to “disregard the contents of the said correspondence in its entirety, as it is fake.”
The Commission has condemned this act, labelling it “a serious electoral offence and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.” It appealed to those engaged in such “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities to desist forthwith.”
INEC also confirmed that it is now collaborating with security agencies to investigate the matter with the aim of ensuring the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted according to the law.
