Nigerian socialite Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has launched a strong public criticism against the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, accusing him of failing to address the severe insecurity and economic problems in the South-East region.
In a lengthy post on Instagram, Chief Priest demanded that Mr Kalu use his political position to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), arguing that Kanu alone could “fix” the damage his actions had caused.
The socialite claimed that the Deputy Speaker had sent him a direct message, which was later deleted. In his reaction, he wrote: “I’m worried, I’m scared, I’m shivering, but I’m fearless because my name is Chibuike. Sir, if you come for me, God will embarrass you. Just face your work and do it well. If I was Deputy Speaker, I would do better than you.”
He directly linked the region’s troubles to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, revealing that the situation had forced him to relocate his family to Lagos for safety. He shared a personal anecdote, saying his young son constantly expresses a longing for their hometown.
“I built a country home in my village six years ago, but I only managed to visit two weeks ago. My people are in poverty. Businesses in the South-East crashed because of MNK’s detention. That is where I have my major investments and peace of mind,” he lamented, using Kanu’s initials.
Chief Priest described enduring “deep wounds and pain” from the security challenges, insisting that Mr Kalu and other political leaders from the region had not acted decisively enough. He challenged the Deputy Speaker to mirror his personal style in his political duties.
“The same way you dress well in Igbo attire, dress our South-East well. The same way you package your convoy, package our South-East,” he wrote.
While describing Mr Kalu as a “smart, stylish, young and clean guy,” he urged him to rise above partisan politics and focus on rescuing the region. He made a direct political promise, stating, “Use your position to bring peace to the South-East. We will make you governor with our hands. The only way is to let MNK come home to fix what he spoilt by himself.”
He stressed that his outburst was a “wake-up call, not an insult,” and concluded with a warning about the Deputy Speaker’s legacy, saying, “We will remember you as a failure.”
