The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially debunked a viral social media report claiming that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, were abducted by kidnappers.
In a press release issued on Friday, the Command labelled the circulating report as “false” and stated it does not reflect the true situation on the ground.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, an unverified report had filtered in on November 21, 2025, alleging that two pupils were abducted from the school’s field during sporting activities.
In a swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, deployed a combined team of police operatives and military personnel to the scene.
Upon arrival and after a thorough combing of the area, the security team discovered that the alleged abduction was a false alarm. It was revealed that the pupils had sighted hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers.
Normalcy was immediately restored, and the proprietor of the school confirmed to the operatives that the raised alarm was indeed false.
The Command has therefore urged the public to disregard the earlier report, describing it as a rumour unworthy of publication as factual news. It also advised journalists and media outlets to always verify information before publishing to avoid misleading the public.
The general area continues to be closely monitored by security forces to prevent any breach of peace.
