Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has dismissed Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive requiring him to obtain security clearance before visiting the state.
Addressing the governor’s order for the first time, Obi firmly stated that he would continue to visit Edo whenever he chooses.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at Christ The King College (CKC) in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi urged Governor Okpebholo to focus on supporting public institutions rather than issuing threats.
The former Anambra governor was at CKC to present a N50 million donation on behalf of the school’s alumni to assist the institution’s administration in their ongoing projects.
When asked about the governor’s warning, Obi dismissed it, stating, “I’m used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want.”
During his visit, Obi was welcomed by the Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, along with the school’s management and students.
He praised the college for its outstanding contributions to education, describing their efforts as “Phenomenal work.”
Obi also revealed that he and some of his fellow alumni had pooled resources to support the school’s development.
In his remarks, Archbishop Okeke commended Obi for his dedication to nation-building and his consistent efforts toward a better Nigeria.
