The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has reaffirmed its collective support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu, describing his leadership as one firmly rooted in economic reform, national security, and the overall welfare of Nigerians.
The position of the governors was articulated by the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a statement issued on Sunday to commemorate the president’s 74th birthday.
In the statement, AbdulRazaq described the milestone as more than a celebration of age, noting that it represents a legacy defined by resilience, dedication, and measurable impact on national development. He said the occasion provides a fitting moment to reflect on the president’s leadership journey and his efforts in navigating the country through a complex economic and security landscape.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated a firm commitment to implementing critical reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy, even in the face of significant challenges. He noted that while the reforms have come with difficult adjustments, they are necessary steps toward building a more stable and sustainable economic future for the country.
The NGF chairman also highlighted the president’s approach to governance, particularly his emphasis on collaboration and inclusiveness. He commended Tinubu for maintaining consistent engagement with state governments on key national issues, describing the relationship as constructive and beneficial to the overall governance structure.
He noted that the administration’s respect for federalism and intergovernmental cooperation has strengthened trust between the federal and state governments, creating an environment where policies and programmes can be implemented more effectively across the federation.
“The forum acknowledges with deep appreciation the constructive and collaborative spirit with which you continue to engage state governments on matters of shared national importance. Your steadfast support for the principles of federalism and intergovernmental cooperation remains an enduring source of strength to us all,” the statement read.
AbdulRazaq stressed that this synergy between different tiers of government is essential for addressing the country’s pressing challenges, particularly in areas such as security, infrastructure, and economic development.
He further noted that the governors remain aligned with the president’s vision and are committed to supporting policies that prioritise the safety, well being, and prosperity of Nigerians.
Reaffirming this stance, the NGF pledged its continued partnership with the federal government in efforts to protect and preserve the welfare and security of citizens across the country. The governors also underscored the importance of safeguarding democratic principles, including the rights of Nigerians to freely choose their leaders.
“The forum remains firmly committed to supporting the president to protect and preserve the welfare and security of all Nigerians, including the freedom and ability to freely choose and venerate their leaders without interference,” AbdulRazaq said.
The statement further emphasised that the progress of the nation depends on sustained cooperation between political leaders at all levels, as well as the collective commitment to national unity and development.
Beyond governance, AbdulRazaq used the opportunity to acknowledge Tinubu’s long standing political journey and contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution. He noted that the president’s experience and strategic vision continue to shape the direction of the country at a critical time.
He also expressed optimism that the administration’s policies, if sustained, would yield long term benefits and place Nigeria on a stronger footing in the global community.
“As you mark this special milestone, we wish you good health, renewed vigour, and the wisdom to lead our great nation to greater heights,” he said.
The NGF chairman concluded by reiterating that the forum’s support is not merely ceremonial but rooted in a shared responsibility to ensure that governance delivers tangible outcomes for citizens. He stressed that the governors remain committed to working closely with the president to drive reforms, strengthen institutions, and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
The endorsement by the NGF underscores the growing alignment between the federal and state governments, as the country continues to pursue reforms aimed at economic recovery, improved security, and inclusive development.
