Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the sacked lawyer of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has broken his silence in a lengthy social media statement but insists he is not yet ready to respond to his former client’s allegations.
Ejiofor’s post, published on his official X handle (@EjioforBar) on July 27, 2026, came hours after news broke that Kanu had formally terminated his legal services in a letter dated July 22, 2026, from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
While Ejiofor did not mention Kanu by name in the statement, the timing and content made it clear he was addressing the fallout from his dismissal.
In the post, titled “THE CURIOUS PANIC OF THOSE CONFRONTED BY NOTHING BUT SILENCE,” Ejiofor launched an attack on an unnamed “supposed client”, widely understood to be Kanu, whom he repeatedly referred to as a “daydreamer.”
Ejiofor detailed what he described as years of “ceaseless campaign of blackmail” against him, including alleged threats to his life, frivolous petitions to professional bodies, and “the most reprehensible and utterly unfounded and defamatory allegation that he had entered into an intimate relationship with his wife.”
The lawyer said he had maintained “resolute silence” throughout these provocations.
‘Why the Lamentation?’
Ejiofor questioned why his former client was now invoking professional confidentiality, suggesting that the principle had been conveniently remembered only when it served a purpose.
“The very moment the weight and brutality of the evidence that Lolo Nneka was prepared to place before the court in defence of herself against a frivolous and ridiculous defamation suit were brought to his attention, the self-styled champion of professional confidentiality suddenly remembered the existence of that sacred principle,” Ejiofor wrote.
Despite his lengthy statement, Ejiofor maintained he was not divulging any professionally obtained information.
“Let me, therefore, tell the daydreamer this: the time has not yet come for me to divulge professionally obtained information. And even if I had intended to do so, I would have done so long before now,” he said.
He added: “For now, nothing has been said. And perhaps that is precisely what is causing all the lamentation.”
Ejiofor ended his statement with a warning: “Time, however, is fast running out. It is only a matter of time. We move!”
Background to sack letter
Kanu’s formal termination letter, which has been widely circulated in Nigerian media, accused Ejiofor of continuing to hold himself out as IPOB’s legal representative despite an earlier verbal termination.
The IPOB leader cited Section II, Subsection A of the IPOB Code of Conduct, which he said vests the authority to appoint or dismiss principal officers exclusively in the IPOB leader.
Kanu directed Ejiofor to cease all public statements, media interviews, and social media posts on his behalf.
