A chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress in Delta State, Chief Emma Ejiofor has publicly distanced himself from defection rumours and a so-called “coalition” meeting prominently shared by Lauretta Onochie, a former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari on social media.
Through an official statement released by his chief press secretary, Innocent Okafor, the party leader moved to correct what he termed “misrepresentations” of his political engagements.
The clarification comes after Onochie posted photographs of a meeting involving Chief Ejiofor, Chief Andy Uwejeyan, and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, who is the ADC Secretary. Her post, captioned “JOY IS COMING ” read: “I joined two Great Leaders Of the Coalition in Delta State, Chief Emma Ejiofor (PhD) and Chief Andy Uwejeyan, in a meeting with the ADC Secretary, HE RAUF AREGBESOLA. T’was all about our nation and how to rescue her from the clutches of Kidnappers and Blackmailers. We won’t give in to the antics of their Minions and Blackmailers. We will stand for our nation. God has blessed Nigeria”, she wrote.
However, this narrative has been firmly rejected by Chief Ejiofor’s office. The released statement emphasised that “the suggestion that Chief Ejiofor is considering leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) is entirely unfounded.” It provided context for the meeting, describing it simply as “a standard exchange among colleagues and friends” and criticised its characterisation as anything more significant.
The clarification sought to leave no room for doubt regarding Chief Ejiofor’s political loyalties, stating unequivocally that “Chief Ejiofor has no intention of departing from the party.”
It further elaborated on his stance, noting that “as a seasoned political strategist and dedicated member of the APC,” he views the party as “the most established and structured platform for achieving his goals.” His primary focus, the statement reiterated, remains “the well-being of his constituents and the broader population,” a duty he is committed to fulfilling within the APC’s framework.
The release also issued a broader call for integrity in political discourse. It urged “the public to disregard these inaccurate portrayals and instead rely on official communications from Chief Ejiofor’s office for accurate information.”
Advocating for a more respectful political environment, the statement said, “We advocate for a political environment based on facts and respect, and call for an end to the dissemination of misleading information.”
The statement concludes with the authority of the office of the Onishe Ubulu, making it clear that all future communications regarding his political activities should be considered official only if released through his designated channels.
