Kano Pillars Football Club on Sunday beat visiting Doma United of Gombe 4-1 in their matchday four fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Kano.
The match, which was played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, was watched by a large number of spectators, as usual.
Abdullahi Musa opened the scoring for the home side in the 32nd minute, converting from a delivery by Rabiu Ali to give Pillars a 1-0 lead.
Ali doubled the advantage eight minutes into the second half, with Ubong Friday providing the assist.
Doma United reduced the deficit shortly afterwards to make it 2-1, but Kano Pillars responded strongly.
Ahmed Musa restored the two-goal advantage in the 77th minute before Nasiru Salihu completed the scoring in the 90th minute.
Speaking after the match, Pillars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, commended his players for their performance.
He said the team prepared adequately for the encounter, having had an opportunity to train extensively during the previous week.
He said Doma United, who were league leaders before the match, gave Pillars a tough challenge, but his players played to their strengths to secure maximum points.
He stated, “We expected a tough game because they had gone three matches unbeaten with nine points without conceding.”
