Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has dissolved the State Executive Council, effectively sacking all commissioners serving in his cabinet.
The governor approved the immediate dissolution in a move that catches many by surprise, though official sources indicate it is designed to clear the way for political realignments ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
A statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, confirmed the development, stating that the decision provides an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the upcoming polls.
Governor Zulum has directed all affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.
In the statement, the governor expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and invaluable contributions to the development and service of the people of Borno State.
Details of the political implications and possible cabinet reshuffle are expected in the coming days as political activities gather momentum across the state.
