‘We Can’t Run Country on Vibes’ – Arise TV Anchor Rufai Oseni Slams Peter Obi

By James Adamu

Arise Television Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, over his recent television interview.

Speaking on Monday, Oseni said Obi failed to provide clear policy details on how he intends to tackle Nigeria’s problems during his appearance on Channels Television on Sunday.

Oseni argued that candidates must move beyond vague promises and explain the specific methodologies behind their proposed policies.

“That’s what I did not see yesterday. I didn’t see the how. We can’t run a country on vibes,” he said.

He noted that with elections just six months away, Nigerians should have already seen detailed manifestos from all candidates.

“By now, if elections are in January, we are now in August, we have not seen manifesto. Six months to go. Secondly, we are not seeing proper articulation of how you will do it,” Oseni stated.

He urged candidates to stop saying “I will do this” and instead explain how they plan to achieve their goals.

“We should see an idea. It’s the idea that we want to debate, the workability of the idea, and that I didn’t see. I didn’t see a lot of that,” he added.

Oseni also took issue with the common campaign promise of fixing insecurity without any strategic explanation.

“We will fix insecurity. How? And please, people should stop telling us ‘I don’t want to share my operational details’,” he said.

He clarified that he was not asking for operational specifics but for overarching methodologies.

“What we are saying is overarching details, methodology, how you are going to do it. That’s just it,” he explained.

The broadcaster further stressed the need for candidates to provide technical explanations on critical sectors, particularly electricity.

“Power sector, what would you do as regards them about creating thousands of megawatts? Major problem in the power sector today is transmission,” Oseni said.

He pointed out that Nigeria has 13,000 installed capacity but cannot transmit more than 5,000 megawatts, and asked whether candidates would invest in transmission infrastructure or raise equity for such investments.

“Those are paramount questions. So please, we want to see more of those details,” he concluded.
