Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was found guilty on all counts of terrorism on Thursday by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the verdict, convicting Kanu on a seven-count charge brought by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In his ruling, the judge stated that Kanu’s broadcasts, which included threats of violence, incitement to kill, and the enforcement of sit-at-home orders in Nigeria’s South-Eastern states, constituted acts of terrorism.
The court also found the IPOB leader guilty for professing to be a member of a proscribed organization between 2018 and 2021.
The proceedings have now moved to the sentencing phase. A full report on the judgment and the sentence will follow.
