Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday evening received the chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory at his residence in Abuja.
The event followed his formal registration as a member of the party last week, months after ditching the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The delegation, led by the ADC State Chairman of Kogi, Hon. Ogga Temitope Kingsley, visited Atiku to express their delight over his official entry into the party, describing it as a major boost to the coalition’s strength and national outlook.
Atiku, equally pleased, reaffirmed his full commitment to the party’s growth and mission, noting that his decision to join was timely and strategic in the face of growing national concerns.
During the meeting, he stressed that “there is no time to waste in our rescue mission,” urging other stakeholders, leaders and coalition members to complete their formal registration with the ADC.
He dismissed any notion of neutrality, insisting that this is a defining moment for Nigerians who wish to see the country redirected from what he described as a dangerous path. According to him, the challenges confronting Nigeria demand decisive political alignment rather than “sitting on the fence.”
The visit comes at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is witnessing increasing agitation for reforms, widening insecurity and economic strain—issues Atiku has repeatedly highlighted in his public interventions.
His alignment with the ADC marks a shift after years of political prominence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he contested the presidency multiple times.
Atiku commended the ADC state leaders for their foresight, saying he was impressed by their commitment to the future of the country. He reiterated that the party is united in its resolve to work toward a secure, united and prosperous Nigeria, adding that the ADC’s coalition structure offers renewed hope for Nigerians seeking a different direction.
He accused the APC of continuing to “wreck the country,” insisting that the ADC and its partners are ready to stop the downward slide.
The meeting closed with a shared understanding that the coming months will be crucial for mobilising grassroots supporters, strengthening internal party structures and consolidating the coalition’s national presence.
