Unknown mother of newborn twins has abandoned them in a bush in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.
But the twins have been rescued by a local task force.
Spear News learnt the shocking incident happened on Friday, at Mbaaji in Ningev Council Ward, an area known locally as “Wangbeen Jor.”
Chief Daniel Orhembega, the Chairman of the Local Government Task Force, disclosed the babies were found during a routine sanitation exercise.
In his words, “We were going to dispose refuse when one of our men heard a baby crying.
“When we followed the sound, we saw the twins wrapped in fresh leaves, with the placenta and a gown believed to belong to the mother.”
An eyewitness account said one of the babies was crying loudly while the other lay quietly asleep raising fears they had been abandoned shortly after birth.
The twins, however, have been rushed to a nearby clinic for urgent medical attention.
In his reaction, the Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government, Hon. Dennis Terkura Guda, expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as unacceptable.
He later visited the babies at the clinic, took responsibility for their welfare, and gave them names. Guda-Alia (boy) and Alia-Doo (girl).
