Wike-Led Faction of PDP Reaffirms Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary

..Insists 2027 presidential ticket must go to South

The People’s Democratic Party Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders have reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This decision was made at a meeting held yesterday, June 9, 2025, in Abuja.

In attendance at the meeting were: former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; and other party stakeholders, during a meeting convened by Wike in Abuja on Monday.

A communique released after the meeting, the stakeholders expressed concern over the party’s drift towards self-annihilation due to divisive tendencies and selfish interests by a few members of the party.

“We unequivocally reaffirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party,” the group stated in a communique. “The party must, without further delay, respect the judgement of the Supreme Court.”

“The seemingly untractable crisis in the party is as a result of inexplicable refusal of a few to adhere to the Party’s Constitution,” they noted.

The group emphasised the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution and respecting the Supreme Court’s judgment.

“Only the National Convention, properly and duly constituted, can remove Senator Sam Anyanwu, the National Secretary, arising from his status as a member of the National Executive Committee of the party,” they stated.

The stakeholders also called for the party to make an unequivocal pronouncement zoning its presidential candidate to the South in the 2027 elections.

“In the spirit of fairness, including federal character principles and respect for our Party Constitution, the party must make an unequivocal pronouncement zoning its Presidential Candidate to the South in the 2027 elections after the unbroken years of Northern Presidency under President Muhammadu Buhari,” they said.

Furthermore, the group expressed support for the National Reconciliation Committee headed by Senator Bukola Saraki and urged that the committee be allowed to complete its assignment.

“We support the efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee headed by His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki,” they stated.

The PDP Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law, respecting constitutional mandates, and resisting destabilization efforts within the party.

“We reiterate our commitment to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional mandate, resist all machinations aimed at destabilizing the party,” they declared.
