Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, went hard at his brother and House of Representatives member, Bello El-Rufai, on Saturday, accusing him of political betrayal, drug abuse, and abandoning the family when it mattered most.
In a fiery series of posts on his X account, Bashir tore into his elder brother over his recent defection from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress, claiming it had nothing to do with principles and everything to do with political survival.
“Stuck with Uba Sani until he realized he is being dumped then suddenly remembered family loyalty and moved to ADC. Where was he since?” Bashir wrote.
He accused Bello of staying silent while family loyalists fought Governor Uba Sani, whom he described as the “towel governor.”
Bashir also claimed his brother once told him to back off from criticizing Sani.
“Purely serving his interest. When people like us were countering the towel governor, the bastard was nowhere, hiding and eating and cleaning mouth. This is the same idiot that asked me to pipe down on my criticism of his former boss,” he said.
Bello had previously served as Sani’s chief of staff before his election to the House of Representatives. Since the political fallout between Nasir El-Rufai and Uba Sani, Bello had tried to stay neutral, even saying in an interview that mediating between his father and the governor was not his responsibility.
That neutrality, Bashir suggested, was just a cover for self-interest.
But the attack did not stop at politics. Bashir leveled serious personal accusations against his brother, including alleged drug use.
“I have a useless excuse for a brother, with his bony-ass face coated with an unknown white substance around his nostrils every night. That is your Member in the House, representing a whole populace, but prefers alcohol and cocaine,” he wrote.
He also questioned his brother’s masculinity by referencing Bello’s use of IVF to have children and suggested a history of mental illness. In one particularly disturbing line, Bashir accused Bello of contributing to the death of one of their siblings.
“Fucking alcoholic that contributed to the death of one of our siblings is the skinny idiot attempting to judge me. Wawa,” he wrote.
Bashir also appeared to issue a warning, saying he keeps weapons by his bedside and daring his brother to confront him.
“Come for me and wallah one of us will end up dead and it won’t be me,” he said.
Bello El-Rufai had not responded to the allegations at press time.
Spear News reports that, while his children fight, the family’s patriarch, Nasir El-Rufai, remains embroiled in his own legal troubles.
The former governor has been in detention since February 2026, facing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations of fraud, money laundering, and abuse of office during his tenure.
He was also charged by the State Security Service over the alleged unlawful interception of the National Security Adviser’s communications.
His family and political allies have repeatedly protested his continued detention, describing the bail conditions as deliberately punitive and politically motivated.
The ADC, the party Bello recently defected to, has warned that the former governor’s detention is an attempt to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
