The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to fully enforce the recommendations of the Oronsaye Committee Report should he emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku made this known in a Friday statement released through his media aide, Mr Kenneth Okonkwo. He described the report as a vital blueprint for streamlining Nigeria’s cumbersome federal bureaucracy and curbing excessive government spending.
According to the former vice president, the Oronsaye Report offers practical solutions to address overlapping functions among ministries, departments, and agencies, which have long drained the nation’s resources.
He faulted the current administration under President Bola Tinubu for paying lip service to the report while expanding the federal bureaucracy rather than trimming it. Atiku argued that the time for rhetoric is over, and decisive action is now needed.
The ADC candidate vowed that his administration would not only adopt the report but would also set up a special task force to ensure its seamless implementation within the first 100 days of taking office. He noted that the savings realised from the exercise would be channelled into critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
Atiku further emphasised that reducing the cost of governance is not just an economic necessity but a moral obligation to ordinary Nigerians who bear the brunt of wasteful public expenditure.
He called on citizens to support his vision for a leaner, more efficient government, insisting that Nigeria cannot afford to maintain its current structure if it hopes to achieve sustainable development.
