The All Progressives Congress (APC), have received no fewer than 157,000 members of various political parties have joined in Bauchi State, in a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The new members, drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and other political platforms, were formally received into the APC at a gathering in Azare.
The event brought together APC leaders, stakeholders, supporters and the defectors, who declared their readiness to work with the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the new members had been formally registered with the APC.
Pate described the development as a sign of increasing support for the APC in Bauchi State, while urging the new members and existing party faithful to work together.
He stressed the need for unity, mutual respect and commitment among members, saying these would be essential to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The minister also called on Bauchi residents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing projects and programmes of the Federal Government which he said had benefited the state.
Pate urged APC members to take the achievements of the Tinubu administration to the grassroots and mobilise support for the president ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Also speaking, the APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State and former governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, appealed to party members to put aside their differences and work towards a united APC.
Abubakar said the growing number of people joining the party presented an opportunity to expand its political structure, but warned that the development also required greater unity and cooperation among members.
He urged existing members to welcome the defectors and treat them as equal members of the APC, saying their collective effort would be necessary to build a formidable party across the state.
“We must work together as one family. The strength of the party will depend on our ability to accommodate one another and remain united,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Hon. Farouq Mustapha described his return to the APC as a homecoming.
“I am a son of the house, APC is my home and I have returned home,” Mustapha said.
He thanked the APC leadership for receiving the defectors and pledged that the new members would contribute to strengthening the party across Bauchi State.
Mustapha said the group had reached out to members of different political parties and recorded 157,000 people on its membership records.
“Across the parties I listed, from the APM to the NDC we have a total of 157,000 people on our records.
We did not simply make noise; we quietly reached out and appealed to them, and those who deemed us worthy agreed to join us and align with the APC,” he said.
He appealed to APC members to avoid internal divisions and embrace cooperation, stressing that unity and discipline would be crucial to the party’s success in 2027.
The gathering ended with the new members pledging their allegiance to the APC and expressing their readiness to participate in the party’s activities and grassroots mobilisation across Bauchi State.
