The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially directed all its candidates across all electoral tiers to begin campaigns for the 2027 general elections, effective immediately.
In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC ordered its presidential candidate, Peter Obi; vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; and all National Assembly, governorship, and State House of Assembly candidates to roll out their campaign activities without further delay.
The directive, the party said, aligns with the election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the NDC accompanied the campaign kickoff with a strong warning: all political activities must be issue-based and strictly devoid of violence, abusive language, and inflammatory rhetoric.
“In keeping with the ideology of NDC, the party reiterates that all campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and foul language. The NDC has no room for violence,” Director stated.
The party emphasized that its campaign would be guided by its core philosophy of peaceful political engagement, urging candidates to focus on pressing national issues affecting Nigerians rather than resorting to personal attacks or divisive tactics.
According to the statement, presidential and National Assembly candidates are to immediately begin local consultations, sensitisation meetings, and familiarisation tours with their constituents. Governorship and State Assembly candidates are also required to liaise with party stakeholders in their respective localities and the national secretariat to plan and coordinate their campaign programmes.
The NDC further disclosed that it would soon inaugurate various campaign committees, with the composition and inauguration date to be announced later.
“We direct all candidates across the country to begin their campaigns. State chapters, local government chapters and down to the wards should organise and draw up itineraries for their own local campaigns,” the statement added.
On a related note, the party addressed the status of its logo, clarifying that it had modified the symbol in consultation with INEC and formally notified the commission. However, Director noted that some administrative details were still being resolved before the new logo could officially replace the existing one.
“Until then, however, we enjoin all our candidates and members to continue to use the old logo, which is also the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes for now, pending the conclusion of all engagements and arrangements with INEC on the replacement,” he advised.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, grassroots-driven campaign, positioning itself as a party of the people as the nation prepares for the 2027 polls.
