The political feuding in the oil-rich Rivers state engulfing Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and, his estranged political predecessor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Minister Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has now cascaded into a state burial arm-twisting.
While the incumbent governor scheduled for the burial of late King of Opobo Kingdom, His Majesty King (Dr) Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, slated to hold, Saturday April 11, Wike without conferring to Fubara allegedly influenced the burial of late senator Barry Mpigi who represented southeast senatorial district of the state, to be same time and day.
Reliable sources told Spear News that while Wike would be in Ogoni, Fubara with his state apparatchiks would be in Opobo to honour the late respected monarch.
A source who pleaded anonymity said, “I asked the king’s son during the king’s valedictory why they arranged it so?
‘He said he doesn’t know but the FCT Minister May not attend the burial despite the fact that my father was an ardent follower of Nyesom Wike when he was the state governor.
‘I asked if they had issues? He said I can’t tell.
“The truth remains that the problem between Wike and Fubara has not been resolved yet, that’s why Wike wanted the two burials to hold same day”.
Discrete investigations showed that in the wake of the political disagreement, Mpigi was said to be the henchman of Wike whom he had anointed his preferred Fubara successor come 2027 general polls.
But political pundits said in weighing the evolving power dynamics, the political struggle and disagreement between the duo may not be settled outside the 2027 polling booth where a winner and loser will ultimately emerge.
