Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have thwarted a terrorist plot to extort illegal levies from communities in Yobe State, killing one suspect and recovering a significant cache of weapons and logistics materials in a two-day operation.
Military sources confirmed that the operation, which began on 19 July 2026, was triggered by credible intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP operatives on a levy collection mission.
Troops from Forward Operating Base Bukarti, working alongside 27 Task Force Brigade, mobilised swiftly to the Paya Kafiya axis, where they made contact with the terrorists. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which troops overwhelmed the insurgents with superior firepower. One of the vehicles was immobilised and its driver killed. Four other terrorists fled into nearby bush with bullet wounds.
A follow-up search operation along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada corridor on 20 July led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, and assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products. Mechanical tools believed to have been used for terrorist logistics were also recovered.
In a statement issued on 21 July, the Acting Military Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, described the operation as a major blow to terrorist funding networks in the region.
He said the successful mission demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in dismantling the illicit revenue streams that sustain insurgent activities.
Captain Goni reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements through coordinated offensives, in collaboration with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens, until lasting peace and stability are fully restored across the North East.
