The traditional ruler of Ibagwa Opi Ogbozalla Autonomous Community in Nsukka LGA of Enugu, Williams Ezugwu, has been suspended by the state government over alleged misconduct.
Enugu Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Charles Egumgbe announced the suspension of the traditional ruler on Thursday.
In the statement issued on Thursday, by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Mr Emeka Nebeife, the commissioner blamed Ezugwu’s suspension on the alleged “persistent conducts that are inconsistent with some sections of the Traditional Rulers Law of Enugu State”.
According to the statement, the suspension is with immediate effect.
It added that the accusations leveled against the royal father included his failure to subscribe to the community’s Code of Conduct.
He was also alleged to have refused to constitute a cabinet to help in running the affairs of the community since its creation.
He was further said to have failed to set up a town union executive, thereby, running the community single-handed.
The commissioner argued that the traditional ruler’s actions were capable of plunging the community into an avoidable crisis, hence his suspension.
Recall that Enugu State government had in July suspended three traditional rulers and four President-Generals from Ezeagu LGA for alleged misconduct, bordering on security infractions.
