Edo Gov. extends olive branch to opposition
The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo, dismissing all petitions challenging his victory in the recent polls.
In a landmark ruling delivered on Wednesday, the tribunal declared that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act and upheld Okpebholo’s mandate as the duly elected Governor of Edo State. The opposition candidate, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had challenged the results, alleging irregularities. However, the tribunal ruled that the petitions lacked merit.
Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, signed the official statement, reiterating the administration’s focus on delivering its campaign promises without distractions.
Governor Okpebholo, in his official response, dedicated the victory to the people of Edo State, describing it as a validation of their collective will.
“This victory is not mine alone but belongs to every citizen and resident of Edo State,” he said. “It reaffirms our commitment to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.”
The Governor extended an olive branch to Ighodalo and the opposition, urging them to join hands with his administration in advancing the state’s progress.
“Now is the time to unite beyond partisan lines and work together for the prosperity of Edo State,” he stated.
