The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened disciplinary action against several high-profile members – including state governors and a federal minister – for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, in violation of party rules.
If the party follows through on its threat, those to be affected include: Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State; suspended Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose; and other party stakeholders – all due to their endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election.
The party warned that such actions violate its constitution and could lead to “stiff sanctions.”
The PDP issued the warning in a Friday statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, condemning members for ‘anti-party activities’ after they openly endorsed the re-election of President Tinubu.
The NWC expressed concern over “persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members,” describing their actions as a “serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.”
The statement specifically cited Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution, which states: “No member of the Party shall align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government.”
It noted that such conduct had led to “division, disaffection, and heavy hemorrhaging of members,” weakening the party’s electoral prospects.
The PDP warned those involved to “retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution.”
It also urged members to remain loyal ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 2025 in Ibadan.
Although the statement did not specifically mentioned any member of the party, Spear News reports that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun last month endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their candidate for the 2027 general election.
Adeleke made this known in a post shared via his X (Formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, stating that the agreement was made after a caucus meeting held on Monday.
He wrote, “Our party in Osun has also endorsed President @officialABAT for re-election in 2027, recognizing him as a proud son of our state.”
Addressing speculations about his defection to another party, Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to PDP as the platform gave him the opportunity to serve, and he has also been endorsed for the second term elections coming up in 2026

Similarly, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, last week, publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress rally in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Monday, Fayose declared his support for the re-election of the President and the continuation of Oyebanji’s administration, despite being a member of the opposition.
“I hereby endorse publicly, without reservation, President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
“I also endorse our governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term,” Fayose stated.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has never concealed his support for the APC – even prior to his ministerial appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike, who played a pivotal role in delivering substantial votes for the APC during the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State, recently reaffirmed his political realignment.
During a recent media briefing in Abuja, Wike declared he would lead President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Rivers State in 2027.
He stated unequivocally that his loyalty would lie with President Tinubu rather than the PDP’s presidential candidate.
“I have told you this before. Is it because I am in Asiwaju’s presidency? Are you not aware I will lead his campaign in Rivers State? You want me to say no?” Wike said.
Also, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is one of the leaders of the party found wanting in this regard.
It would be recallee that during his Easter Day peace message, Fubara urged residents of Rivers State to support President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”,
“The transformation we all desire is achievable when we act together as one people under God.”
