The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly distanced itself from Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, declaring that he is no longer a member of the party.
The state’s PDP Caretaker Committee issued the clarification in response to a viral video showing the Governor making what it described as misleading claims about his party affiliation while breaking the Ramadan fast with supporters at the Government House in Bauchi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Caretaker Committee, led by Chairman Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, reminded the Governor and the public of the binding resolutions of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
“For the avoidance of doubt, this claim is misleading. The Caretaker Committee wish to respectfully draw the attention of His Excellency, and members of the public to the 103rd and 104th Resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party, wherein he, Gov Bala, alongside Governors Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, and host of others, were formally expelled from the Party,” the statement read.
The Committee stressed that the party’s constitution and its previous decisions supersede any personal declarations made by the Governor. “The Party’s position regarding his status remains clear and has not changed. The Governor’s repeated public posturing cannot override the established position of the Party. They cannot be set aside by public declarations, media statements or informal engagements,” it added.
The statement also suggested a path forward for the Governor if he genuinely wishes to return to the PDP fold, advising him to seek reconciliation with key party stakeholders he has previously confronted, notably the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
“Rather than attempting to rewrite the narrative through media appearances, If Governor Bala Mohammed sincerely desires to remain within the PDP, the appropriate course is to demonstrate genuine commitment to reconciliation with critical stakeholders he openly confronted, particularly The Hon Minister of The FCT Minister, His Excellency, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike,” the Committee stated.
Shifting focus to governance, the Caretaker Committee also criticized the Governor for engaging in what it termed “distractions” rather than addressing pressing issues in Bauchi State, specifically the “alarming rise in insecurity” in his own Local Government Area.
The Committee advised PDP members in the state and the general public to treat the Governor’s claims of membership with caution and to continue supporting the recognized Bauchi State PDP Caretaker Committee.
“The integrity of the party’s processes must be preserved at all times,” the statement concluded.
