The Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has stepped down from pastoral duties as the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria considers disciplinary action following multiple sexual allegations made against him by several women.
Okafor who was embroid in a sex scandal involving Nollywood actress, Doris Oga, publicly apologised to the actress during a church service last Sunday, kneeling on the pulpit to admit to past âmistakesâ and seek forgiveness.
This occurred shortly after his wedding to a new bride, Pearl, on December 16, 2025âa ceremony Ogala claimed followed a broken promise of marriage after a nine-year relationship.
The scandal intensified as more women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct, manipulation, and betrayal.
According to a report by PUNCH, in response to mounting pressure from church leaders, Okafor announced he would be stepping aside for a month for âspiritual renewalâ and rest with his new wife, stating, âWe are stepping aside to pray, to have a retreat and to rest from this January, and to return better and stronger from the presence of the Lord.â
A senior PFN official confirmed that the fellowship had urged Okafor to step down to reduce tension, noting that further disciplinary measures were under consideration.
The official clarified that while the PFN could apply spiritual pressure and discipline, criminal allegations such as rape should be investigated by law enforcement. âIf there is an allegation of rape against a pastor, it is not the PFN that should investigate it. This is a criminal case, and the government should step in,â the official stated.
The allegations began when actress Doris Ogala posted emotional videos on Instagram accusing Okafor of a long-term sexual relationship, betrayal, and sharing explicit content. She later issued a legal notice demanding âŚ1 billion in damages. Other accusers include Okaforâs former wife, Bessem Okafor, who alleged infidelity and physical assault, and a former choir member identified as Ebere, who claimed to have had multiple abortions during a secret relationship with the pastor.
Despite the allegations, some church members defended Okafor, dismissing the claims as blackmail and extortion attempts. One long-term member, Ruben Alufe, stated, âPastor Okafor is a good man of God. Forget what the world is saying. They just want to blackmail him.â
The Lagos State Police Command stated that no formal petitions had been filed against Okafor, noting that without a complaint, no arrest could be made. Christian leaders, including Bishop Stephen Adegbite of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, urged ministers to live uprightly and be mindful of accountability.
He emphasised that genuine repentance could open the door to restoration, stating, âIf he repents genuinely, his life can become a testimony to others.â
The PFN is expected to deliberate on further actions against Okafor in the coming weeks as the pastor begins his temporary leave.
