Three sisters have died after a boat carrying them capsized at Tiga Dam in Kano State.
The victims, identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira, were from Yalwan Rugu-Rugu village in Tudunwada Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Chairman of Tudunwada Local Government Area and Chairman of the Kano State Local Government Chairmenβs Association, Hajiya Saβadatu Salisu Soja Maijamaβa, confirmed the tragedy in a statement.
Maijamaβa expressed condolences to the victimsβ family and residents of the community.
She prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased and grant their family the strength to bear the loss.
Spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had not been formally notified about the incident by the local government authorities or members of the community.
Abdullahi said the service only became aware of the tragedy after seeing the local government chairmanβs announcement on social media.
He added that the Fire Service would issue an official statement and respond appropriately once it received formal information about the incident.
