Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries has publicly apologized and knelt in his church to tender an apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, following a bitter dispute over an alleged marriage promise that led to her arrest.
Pastor Okafor’s dramatic apology came less than 24 hours after Doris Ogala took to social media to release a solo song titled “Na Your Pikin Be This Chris,” in which she was seen dancing with a child in her hands. The timing suggests the cleric’s public plea may have been a direct response to the actress’s musical broadside.
The cleric’s apology was delivered during a Sunday service livestream, where he directly addressed the controversy that has gripped social media for days.
“Listen, we’re not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past. And I tender apology to everybody,” Pastor Okafor stated.
While extending his remorse, he contested the veracity of the allegations leveled against him. “But everything that was said is not true. Everything, take note, everything that was said was never true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said,” he claimed.
Nevertheless, he explicitly named the actress, saying, “But be it. I say I am sorry to everyone I have offended. To Doris Ogala, I also say sorry.”
Declaring his apology as both personal and public, the pastor knelt before the congregation. “And I apologize to everyone that I have offended. And once again, I repeat this. I’m ready to make restitution to anyone… And anybody, any lady, anywhere, or man I have offended, I am sorry. Forgive me. I am not perfect. I’ve never been perfect,” he pleaded. “I’m kneeling down before everyone. And before the church.”
Background of the Feud and Arrest
The public apology comes on the heels of a tumultuous week that saw Doris Ogala arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police. The actress was rearrested in Abuja shortly after being granted bail and flown to Lagos by officers from the Zone 2 Command.
Sources informed SaharaReporters that the situation escalated when Ogala’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to document the police actions, leading to an alleged assault on him and the confiscation of his phones. Following intervention from activist Jamiu Towolawi (Jharmo), Ogala was released in Lagos last Monday.
It was later revealed that Pastor Okafor met with the actress at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos, where he reportedly “fell flat on his knees and begged” during a closed-door meeting. Ogala was subsequently released on “health grounds.”
The conflict originated from Ogala’s allegations that Pastor Okafor reneged on a promise to marry her after a relationship that began in 2017. Through her lawyers, she had demanded N1 billion in damages for emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial loss, citing significant monetary transactions including an alleged N45 million transfer.
Pastor Okafor’s public kneeling and apology mark a significant attempt to quell the scandal that has drawn widespread public and media attention.
