The Ogun State Government has released 130 hectares of land along the Epe/Mojoda Expressway in Ijebu-Ode to the Federal Government for the proposed Ijebu-Ode Port Terminal Project.
The move follows a request by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, in a letter addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun on June 26, 2025.
According to analysts, the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port will ease congestion around the Lagos port system, boost national trade, strengthen Ogun’s industrial hub initiative, and enhance Nigeria’s GDP. It will also serve as a cargo consolidation and distribution hub for the South-West, improving competitiveness and facilitating trade in Ogun State while adding aesthetic value to the neighbourhood.
The facility is expected to be linked by rail to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, further connecting the proposed Kajola and Moniya Ibadan Dry Ports and the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, thereby creating an integrated logistics corridor.
Governor Abiodun described the development as a strategic win for the state:
“The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port and the Gateway International Airport are critical enablers of industrialization and regional competitiveness. Together, they will transform Ogun State into a logistics and economic powerhouse, creating prosperity for our people and opportunities for Nigeria at large.”
With the Kajola Inland Dry Port secured for Ogun Central and now the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port for the Eastern corridor, Ogun is balancing industrial growth across its three senatorial districts, ensuring equity and sustainable development.
It will be recalled that in January, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of Inland Dry Ports in Ijebu-Ode and Moniya, Oyo State, to reduce congestion at Lagos seaports and boost the economy.
During his 2025 Budget Defence in Abuja, Minister Oyetola disclosed that the dry ports are targeted for fast-tracked delivery to decongest the western port system. He said design consultancies are ongoing and emphasized that the projects will generate jobs for youths in Ogun, Oyo, and other neighbouring states.
“The notable deficiencies in the maritime sector such as infrastructure decay, silted river courses, inadequate fish production, and insufficient river crafts require urgent attention,” Oyetola said.
He added that the ministry is initiating several projects to address these challenges.
