The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA Edo State Command, led by commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, says the command has secured the conviction of twenty-four drug offenders and provide counselling and rehabilitation services to 194 and 19 clients with drug abuse disorders, respectively.
The Edo NDLEA within the past six months also seized over 53,520.80 kg of drugs, while a supermarket used for illicit drug sales was sealed in the state.
The command declared an impressive mid year scorecard for the agency in the state on its fight against all illicit drug related offenses.
Commander Ofoyeju made this known when speaking with newsmen at the commands headquarters as part of activities in commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
According to the Edo State commander, of the NDLEA Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju the war against illicit drugs has made significant achievements within the past six months with remarkable seizures of various narcotics, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of Edo State.
Also speaking, senior special assistant on drug policy to governor Monday okpobholo, Mr. Andrew Oghenevo pledged governments continued commitment in ridding the state of illegal drug activities.
Spearnews spoke with some of the thirteen drug suspects paraded for various drug offenses including the 28 year old suspect miss Esther Abumere a 300 level undergraduate of AAU whose shop Big Jamaya supermarket Ekpoma was sealed by the agency.
He said the seizures and arrest underscores the hard stance of the agency was paying against drug trafficking and abuse gave in Edo state.
