A Bauchi-based youth advocacy group, Bauchi Youth 19 Group (Yan Shatara), has called on the Senate Committee on Public Accounts to urgently invite Bala Wunti over allegations linking him to the reported N210 trillion financial controversy involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Addressing journalists during a press briefing under the leadership of Comrade Jaafar Saleh, the group said the call was necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance.
The group specifically appealed to the Senate Committee chaired by Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada to take immediate action by summoning Wunti to clarify the allegations surrounding the financial controversy.
According to the group, at a time when Nigerians are demanding integrity from public office holders and political aspirants, individuals seeking leadership positions must be open to scrutiny, especially when serious allegations have been raised against them.
“We are not here to declare anyone guilty,” the group stated, “but ignoring or delaying action on such matters will only weaken public trust in our institutions.”
The group outlined three major demands: the immediate invitation of Bala Wunti for clarification, a transparent and credible investigative process, and the public release of the committee’s findings.
Yan Shatara also urged political parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), to ensure that their screening processes for aspirants are guided by integrity, responsibility, and accountability.
They emphasized that public office should never serve as protection from scrutiny, but rather as a position of trust and service to the people.
The youth group further called on civil society organizations, the media, and other stakeholders to remain vigilant in promoting transparency and good governance.
They reaffirmed their commitment to engaging relevant authorities in pursuit of justice and the future development of Bauchi State.
